I simply love yoga! It’s been a passion of mine for years. I initially got into it as a means of switching up my workout routine and adding some flexibility training, but it quickly became so much more than that. One of my favorite yoga quotes is:
Practicing yoga can have so many benefits on the mind and body. For me personally, I physically notice an increase in strength, stability, balance, flexibility, and posture. I also experience less pain and tension, sleep better, and overall feel inspired to be healthier. Mentally, it helps me greatly to relieve stress and anxiety, feel grounded, have increased awareness and openness, and be more focused and energetic.
Most importantly out of all these things though, it has helped me develop a loving and kind relationship with myself, to accept my flaws and set no limits to what me or my body can do. This is a lesson that I learned just recently as I participated in a yoga challenge on Instagram with multiple poses I never even attempted before, but I tried them and I surprised myself at what I was actually capable of! So don’t write yourself off to soon...
I do owe a major shout-out however to Yoga by Candace- her tutorials and book, Namaslay, are amazing in demonstrating proper alignment, modifications, and variations on poses. She’s also the one who hosted the yoga challenge on Instagram I mentioned above, such a sweet and inspiring girl!
Well…as some of you may know, I am not one to follow the rules, i.e. recipes whether I am cooking or creating my oily DIYs. So following a set routine, or series of poses, didn’t really work for me. It was boring and lacked a spiritual connection that I desired.
I kind of fell in love with the wild yogi philosophy (I wish I could remember where I heard about this). But it basically comes down to entering each practice with the intention to let go of all boundaries, formalities, or preconceived notions that may be holding me back and allowing my intuition to guide me from there, flowing from asana to asana as it feels natural to me. I love this because every day my practice is unique and different!
In order to set the tone for my sessions and inspire this free-spiritedness I came up with a blend called “Wild Yogi”. I use it in my diffuser and also have it in an inhaler for when I take my practice outside.
I had a lot of dreams for this blend…I wanted something that was going to be grounding and inspiring, yet motivating and uplifting. I also wanted something that was going to encourage an open breathing space. I ended up choosing six different oils which seemed to work very synergistically to meet these goals I had.
- Grapefruit essential oil for its cleansing properties, to add freshness to the blend, and because it is often found to be motivating in a fitness setting.
- Juniper berry essential to assist in cleansing and removing negativity.
- Blood orange essential oil to provide that zing that is uplifting, energizing and inspires happiness.
- Lavender, fine essential oil to add a beautiful aroma which carries calming and soothing vibes.
- Balm mint bush essential oil to provide an excellent source of respiratory support (opening that breathing space).
- Finally, a swirl of lotus absolute to increase spiritual connectedness and intuitive process.
