Aquamarine Frankincense: Journal Entry #3- A few observations and a fun DIY!

So I am on vacation this week! Yay! Go me!  Except I’m not really technically on vacation elsewhere, but staying home with my little jitter bug…a staycation!  I couldn’t have asked for better weather though, it’s sunny, warm, and just beautiful!  One morning as I was sitting on the porch sipping my coconut iced coffee I started to daydream about the aquamarine frankincense and became inspired.

Last week I shared my solid perfume recipe on the blog (in case you missed it, check it out here!) and thought maybe I could whip up something to put a little tropical-beachy twist to my stay at home vacation.  I have been anxious to blend and experiment with the aquamarine frankincense anyways…

Using my standard solid perfume recipe, I decided on coconut oil as the base and a few of my favorite citrus oils to kick up the energy.  I also threw in a drop of white fir because as much as I love the beach, vacations always had a woodsier, mountain-type setting for us. I had to pay homage!

And the "staycation" solid perfume was born!

To recap the solid perfume (or any basic balm) process and because I did not actually photograph the whole thing last week...

More on Aquamarine Frankincense

While I had some extra time, I am on vacation after all, I actually spent some time studying my aquamarine frankincense and came up with a few thoughts and ideas...
1.       I had been hearing a lot of people comment on the color variations in their oil.  I pulled out both of my bottles side by side and sure enough they did not look anything alike.  Surprisingly though, the older bottle that has been opened retained its turquoise color while the newer bottle that has been untouched and stored away was turned a paler, greenish hue.

2.       I decided to very carefully transfer a bit of my aquamarine frankincense to a small glass sample vial in order to lock it away for safe keeping.  The oil itself has an estimated shelf life of 4-5 years so this is not necessarily a means of saving it for future use but more to just preserve a bit of this rare oil and event in essential oil history.

3.       Sadly, after my playing around today I noticed that my first, 5 ml, bottle of aquamarine frankincense is about half gone.  Now, I am normally a glass half-full kind of girl but this realization certainly has me feeling more like a half-empty situation.  Bittersweet!
