Rose Hydrosol for Curly Hair

I started incorporating hydrosols into my hair styling routine several months ago after I saw the idea in one of my favorite online oily groups.  Rose was my hydrosol of choice, though I have tried lavender as well.

I spritz it on my damp, towel-dried, hair before styling as usual. I can’t explain how or why, but it was the BEST THING that ever happened for my curly (and unruly) hair!  Besides simply smelling wonderful…my curls are soft, springy, and full of life!

I loved it so much, I ended up subscribing for an auto shipment of rose hydrosol each month to ensure I never ran out!

But of course I am not going to sit here and write a blog on a whim, so I set out to find out why this worked so darn well.  Apparently, it’s a thing! Hydrosols can be added to your shampoo and conditioner or used as a rinse or spritz.  A few ways hydrosols can improve the appearance and condition of your hair include:
  • moisturizing
  • cleansing
  • controlling oiliness
  • soothing the scalp
  • smoothing and controlling frizz
  • adding shine
  • encouraging growth
  • adding a hint of fragrance

My favorite, rose hydrosol, in particular is “ideal for hair that has lost its bounce, vitality and moisture. Rose hydrosol has anti-ageing qualities, removes impurities, freshens the scalp and hair, restores softness and smoothness, reinforces blood vessels and increases shine in dull strands” (Nanoil).
