This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit Lockwood Lavender Farm in Skaneateles, NY for the Finger Lakes Lavender Festival. Early Sunday morning the ladies of the family along with my little guy loaded up the car and headed out for the two plus hour drive. This is a trip I have been looking forward to for months, the highlight of my Summer for sure. This was also to be my first visit ever to a functioning lavender farm.
It was AMAZING! The words “I am in heaven” may have slipped my tongue several times throughout the day.
If you have ever been near any of the Finger Lakes you know that is always a bit windy. From the moment we stepped out of our car you could smell the lovely scent of lavender carried by this gentle lake affect breeze. I made a bee-line strait to the “you pick” lavender stand. This was what I was most excited for. Armed with a pair of scissors and a guide we were let loose to pick and choose from a large variety of lavenders to make our bouquets. We came out with four beautiful bundles to take home.
The rest of the afternoon we walked the farm checking out the local vendors, having fun with the photo props, and shopping in the lavender market! I came out with quite a hull of lavender goodies to try out-hand sanitizer, sprays, sachets, bath salts, lip balms and more. They were out of the lavender honey though, I was disappointed. I am now obsessed though with the simple lavender spirits spray I purchased. Yes, I bought it. Yes, I know I could have totally made it way cheaper at home. But that’s not the point…this was made with their locally grown lavender!
Leaving the lavender farm was bittersweet. It’s hard to feel sad with so much calming and uplifting lavender around! One thing is for sure, we will certainly be coming back next year. Likely with a bigger car because I have had at least five people tell me they want to come along! The more the merrier :)
